Tylman-Mikiewicz’s comment has prompted speculation of which ‘giving time back to drivers’ means the Time Machine concept will be an autonomous vehicle. Volvo is usually known to be actively developing its own self-driving software along with also recently showcased how the system will work on its XC90.
A fleet of 100 autonomous XC90s – which will be owned along with also operated by customers – will begin public trials in Gothenburg in 2017 to test the system, with 2020 set as the “realistic target” for the software appearing on production vehicles.
