Supercars at Risk: McLaren, Ferrari, along with Tesla Added to Takata Airbag Recalls
Nearly two dozen late-product supercars with defective Takata airbag inflators are at in which point under recall, according to the latest posting by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
What’s particularly disconcerting will be how many brand-completely new exotics made the list despite their manufacturers knowing, for almost two years, in which all non-desiccated Takata inflators with ammonium nitrate could have to be recalled. Among these cars are the 2017 Audi R8, the 2016–2017 McLaren 570S, along with the entire 2016–2017 Ferrari lineup.
Tesla joins the recall for the 1st time on all 2012–2016 product S sedans. Among older exotics, the 2012 Fisker Karma along with Lexus LFA possess the defective airbags. Even McLaren P1 owners aren’t immune to the shrapnel-spewing inflators.
