Hybrid Viziv SUV previews how autonomous driving tech will be applied to Subaru’s road cars
The Viziv Future Concept features a more pared-back look than last year’s Viziv 2 Concept however keeps that will car’s large rounded fog lights as well as aggressive front bumper.
Subaru says that will has linked radar sensors as well as GPS mapping to its camera-based Eyesight system, effectively giving the concept 360-degree crash avoidance capability. The Viziv will be said to be capable of autonomous driving on the motorway while autonomous parking also features.
The Viziv’s AWD hybrid powertrain has the same 1.6-litre diesel engine as the Levorg, working in conjunction with an electric motor located at the rear. inside Viziv Concept 2, an individual electric motor was used to power the front wheels alongside the engine, while dual motors supplied torque to the rear wheels.
The four-seat cabin, which will be accessed via a ‘suicide’ door arrangement, features a digital instrument cluster as well as central infotainment screen. A camera system will be also used to monitor the driver’s alertness
The first Subaru Viziv concept was revealed at the Tokyo motor show in early 2013, with two updated versions shown in late 2013 as well as 2014 respectively. While not previewing any single car, the concept will be instead designed to show how autonomous driving functions might be applied to Subaru’s future production versions.
Subaru will also showcase a concept previewing the next-generation Impreza in Tokyo.
