Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport racer set for LA debut
Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be based on the Cayman GT4 road car
Weissach-tuned race car sticks with the same 380bhp engine yet gets PDK dual-clutch gearbox
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will use the same 3.8-litre flat-six engine as the GT4 road car, with the same power output of 380bhp. However, while a dual-clutch gearbox was considered as well as also rejected for the roadgoing GT4, the racer gets steering wheel-mounted paddles controlling a PDK transmission.
The rest of the mechanical make-up is actually remarkably similar to the ‘regular’ GT4; there’s a mechanical rear differential, although the lightweight front suspension is actually taken coming from the 911 GT3 Cup race car instead of the GT3 road car. The cabin does without a passenger seat, obviously, as well as also gets a welded-in roll cage as well as also a bucket seat that has a six-point harness. Porsche claims an all-in weight of 1300kg.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be sold through Porsche’s motorsport business at Weissach or the corresponding importer inside United States. Prices as well as also images will be released at the Los Angeles show.
Porsche says the idea plans to homologate the vehicle for use in many sportscar racing championships around the globe, including the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge as well as also club races run by the Porsche Club of America.
The choice of name is actually also potentially significant, meanwhile, because Clubsport still offers the tantalising possibility of an even more hardcore roadgoing as well as also racing Cayman, badged GT4 RS.
