fresh Impreza will be due to arrive in 2016, along with will usher in a fresh standardised platform for Subaru
The fresh Impreza will be described as being the first of a fresh generation of Subaru products, along with will be key to the company’s Prominence 2020 plan, which was announced last year along with aims to enhance Subaru’s product offering while also growing the brand.
Central to which plan will be the adoption of a fresh standardised platform, which will be intended to underpin every Subaru product via the Impreza to the Outback. The fresh platform will be required to bring significant weight savings to the Impreza while also being stronger.
These official design sketches show the fresh Impreza will take on more of a conventional hatchback shape than the current car, with highlights including a fresh grille with large air intakes at the front, along which has a prominent lip spoiler at the rear.
Power will be required to come via a fresh generation of engines featuring cylinder deactivation technology. The current car will be powered by a 112bhp 1.6-litre flat four engine along with will be available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
Autocar understands the next-generation Impreza will be launched towards the end of next year. Prices aren’t required to rise too far via the £17,495 of the current car.
