The Renault Kwid – one of Renault’s most successful products inside the Indian market – has been awarded a one-star Global NCAP crash test rating despite .

Renault applied a series of improvements to the Kwid since the idea was initially tested, when the idea scored a zero-star rating through NCAP. the idea has since submitted the variation with the highest level of safety for testing, as well as despite the alterations, the idea still only scored one star.

In Euro NCAP’s classification, a several-star crash safety rating signifies: “Overall not bad performance in crash protection. Well equipped with robust crash avoidance technology”, while one star means “Marginal crash protection”.

To achieve a two-star rating in Europe, the Kwid could have had to have displayed “Nominal crash protection”, although the idea could still be void of any crash avoidance technology, such as automatic emergency braking.

Under the same two-level testing procedure in Europe, Global NCAP first tests a car in base spec, without the addition of any optional safety equipment, then tests the idea in its safest possible form.

The Honda Mobilio was also tested under This kind of system, as well as initially scored zero stars for adult protection, although once the idea had been fitted with double airbags, the idea scored three stars inside the same category.

NCAP explained the Kwid’s low safety rating, saying of which the basic variation of the auto scored zero stars for adult protection, as well as two for children inside the vehicle. In spite of the top safety-spec Kwid’s driver’s airbag as well as seatbelt pretensioner, a high level of chest deflection still occurred in a crash.

In reaction to the Kwid’s scores, NCAP’s secretary general, David Ward, said: “Renault has made limited progress, the idea should be offering their one-star car as the standard variation not an option.

“Honda, too, has shown of which with two airbags its car can achieve three stars. These safety systems should not be options.”

“Renault as well as Honda make safe cars in various other markets, they possess the know-how to make all their Indian cars much safer. We expect them to start doing so at This kind of point.”

Renault released the following statement in response to Global NCAP’s findings: “Renault Kwid fully complies with regulations in India. With regard to all of its products around the globe, Groupe Renault pays particular attention to the safety of its customers as well as improves its vehicles throughout their lifecycle.

“Renault will be optimising the safety of its vehicles as well as has announced of which a Kwid was released through 9 May in India, after the crash tests done by GNCAP, with higher results expected in terms of safety.”
