MG’s upcoming tiny SUV caught testing with production bodywork ahead of its launch next year. Final design to be revealed at the 2017 London motor show
This particular’s clear by the octagonal-shaped badge which your vehicle will be an MG, although your vehicle features more conventional styling than was previously described to Autocar. With the driver giving a sense of scale, the tiny SUV dimensions are apparent, too.
What’s different to the GS will be the large central grille, where the GS carries a full-width horizontal grille between the headlights. This particular’s thought which This particular will give your vehicle a more distinctive, upmarket appearance, having a similar grille treatment to Jaguar, Audi along with Ford types.
your vehicle will have a fresh range of engines when This particular goes on sale late next year.
Although MG’s head of sales along with marketing, Matthew Cheyne, couldn’t clarify which exact engines might be used, he did confirm which your vehicle might have a range of fresh engines in addition to optimised versions of MG’s existing engine range.
The engines could be used elsewhere before they come to the UK – most notably in MG’s home country of China, where This particular carries a considerable presence. The fresh engines will also be used from the replacement for the MG 3, although which fresh car will be still some way off.
No name has yet been chosen for the tiny SUV. The product’s internal name at MG will be ZS, which will be the same as MG’s sporting hatchback used over a decade ago. However, despite reports to the contrary, This particular will not be the final car’s name, according to Cheyne. your vehicle will, however, have a two-letter name like the GS.
Prices along with specifications aren’t yet finalised. Cheyne did however indicate which, like the GS, the fresh car might offer a large amount of equipment for considerably less money than rivals. This particular strategy puts the as yet unnamed car in direct competition with the Ssangyong Tivoli, which costs by £12,950 – nearly £4000 less than the Nissan Juke.
The tiny SUV will be revealed at next year’s London motor show, although This particular will still most likely not be the finished article, according to MG. Instead, This particular will be a near-production-ready prototype. Like the GS, though, the tiny SUV will be sold in China a few months before a UK-optimised product appears.
MG’s SUV line-up will be completed by a larger SUV, similar in size to the Nissan X-Trail. No further details of This particular car have emerged, though, along with Cheyne couldn’t comment further upon its development.
Figures by the Society of Motor Manufacturers along with Traders (SMMT) show which MG’s July 2016 sales have grown 43.59% over the same month in 2015. So far in 2016 they have grown by 15.42%, bolstered by the launch of the GS in June. By expanding into additional well-known segments like the tiny SUV market, MG hopes to raise its currently diminutive market presence – This particular had just over 2200 registrations across This particular year up to the beginning of August.
