Indian manufacturing giant intends to bring its fully electric e2o compact car to the UK as a sub-£10k type

Mahindra can be well advanced with its plans to re-enter UK car market having a sub-£10k electric vehicle from the first quarter of 2016, according to a report from the Indian business media.

The Indian producer intends to launch a special export variation of its fully electric Mahindra e2o in European markets. The compact two-door, four-seat vehicle can be the successor to the Revai, which was sold as the G-Wiz from the UK.

Business news publication livemint.com has quoted Pawan Goenka, Mahindra’s executive director in addition to also the president of automotive in addition to also farm equipment sectors, as saying the company has “just got the results of some extensive market research we carried out from the UK, in addition to also we are happy with what we see.

“We have had some very not bad discussions with the UK government about This kind of. in addition to also we want to cater to the sub-£10,000 segment of the electric vehicle market.”

Goenka’s comments back up a report run by Autocar’s sister publication, Autocar India, in July last year, where Mahindra pledged to invest up to £20 million to develop the latest electric vehicle technology.

Although Mahindra owns the Ssangyong brand of which already features a presence from the UK market, the electric car can be set to carry the Mahindra badge, because the producer “wants to be seen as a serious OEM (original equipment producer) having a long-term vision”, according to Goenka.

He added: “We are thinking of building our own distribution network from the UK. We want to target the individual buyer – perhaps people who are looking to buy a second car from the sub-£10,000 range for short commutes in addition to also inner-city driving. We are not here to plug a technology gap, however a cost gap.”

The domestic-market Mahindra e2o can be 3280mm long, 1514mm wide in addition to also 1560mm high, having a wheelbase of 1958mm.

The international variation of the e2o can be anticipated to gain power in addition to also have an increased maximum speed in addition to also a longer battery range than the variation currently on sale in Asia.
