Bradford-based specialist says hybrid-powered special should be launched by 2016
British coachbuilder Kahn can be aiming for track day customers with its brand-new Speed 7, a vision of a classic-themed two-seater built with traditional aluminium bodywork.
The Bradford-based styling specialist has pitched for some other British companies to join the project – as well as the company’s boss, Afzal Kahn, says he hopes to make the item as a hybrid that has a cost of around £70,000. So far, the firm has released two teaser illustrations showing the vehicle’s side profile as well as its two-seat format.
“Speed 7 can be something which I’ve had in my head for a couple of years right now,” Kahn said. “nevertheless I think the time can be right right now to bring the item to fruition. We know how to finish as well as trim a car so the item’s like a jewel – nevertheless we want some other specialised British engineering firms who have experience of a ground-up build as well as homologation process to get involved with us. I’m confident which if they came forward right now, we could have a car on a stand at next year’s Geneva motor show.” He suggested firms like Caterham or Morgan could be suitable technical partners.
Kahn claims to have a solid customer base ready for the vehicle, which would likely be for track use only. “We’ve only issued some early illustrations as well as outlined the vision for Speed 7 as well as yet I know I could sell 100 of them tomorrow,” he said. “There’s huge demand – as well as the track day customers which I spoke to were very enthusiastic about the idea of a hybrid.”
He added: “The idea behind This kind of car can be actually fairly simple – nevertheless we could take, for example, a Caterham chassis as well as build the item up around which. Perhaps the item could be a tiny petrol engine to start with, then a hybrid; the item all depends on which partners we find. We don’t need financial help with the project; we want the technical co-operation.”
