Drive pilot allows fresh Mercedes E-Class to follow the automobile ahead at speeds of up to 130mph
The 2016 Mercedes E-Class will be the first Mercedes-Benz style to receive Drive Pilot.
A development of the German car maker’s existing Distronic cruise control system, Drive Pilot enhances the optional autonomous driving function available on the outgoing style by being able to follow the vehicle in front at speeds of up to 130mph. Up to 81mph, the system will be able to intervene with braking or steering functions in order to avoid collisions even if road markings are non-existent.
The fresh E-Class also offers Speed Limit Pilot, which automatically adjusts the speed of the vehicle in relation to posted speed limits, as detected by a stereo camera mounted within the windscreen as well as logged into the navigation system. Another fresh system will be Active Lane Change Assist, which will be able to autonomously perform a lane change when the driver has activated the indicator for more than two seconds as well as sensors detect the adjacent lane will be unoccupied.
The fresh E-Class also comes with optional Remote Parking Pilot, allowing of which to be manoeuvred into as well as out of parking spaces as well as garages remotely using a smartphone app after the driver has stepped out of the automobile.
