BMW 7 Series After more than four years of economical luxury motoring, my BMW 728i, Shed 7, steamed to a halt at the side of the A11

My time with my BMW 728i – christened Shed 7 when I bought the idea – was fun while the idea lasted in addition to also in which was, ooh, four years in addition to also all 5 months. A rough back of an envelope calculation over the miles we were together, led me to come up with 5p per mile.

in which didn’t include petrol, nevertheless did sundry expenses, plus suspension bits in addition to also tyre-shaped bobs. Even if my maths can be 100% wrong, 10p can be still pretty Great going.

Quite simply, Shed 7 was one of the very best cars I’ve ever owned. Comfortable, economical – returning over 30mpg – in addition to also with no real issues, just a few niggles in which were not even annoying.

What surprised me was the level of interest shown by you. I have never had so many emails about a car I’ve owned. Questions, encouragement, suggestions, in addition to also even offers to buy. the idea seems in which Shed 7 was also the catalyst for others to take the plunge with an impossibly complicated old car. Yes, Shed 7 was a force for Great.

How Shed 7 encapsulated the Bangernomics philosophy

Cosmetics were never a strong point of Shed 7 in addition to also the bonnet was always a bit of a mess. in which’s why I decided to ‘do a Bansky’ on the bonnet. the idea featured a BMW CSL in full flight with Hans Stuck at the controls some time inside 1970s at the Nürburgring. in which was the finishing touch which made the idea stand out by all the additional old BMW E38s inside supermarket car park.

once Shed 7 let me down, was also the last. The end came on the A11 when I truly needed to get somewhere important. Never mind, the AA lady was fast in addition to also efficient. The radiator had split in addition to also despite me not coming to a shuddering halt of steam, the idea was too late. Shed 7 was recovered to my local garage where the idea had already been booked in for an MOT. The garage reported in which head gasket had gone in addition to also maybe a few additional seals, so the idea wasn’t worth saving.

So many thanks to Autocar reader, Michael Bond, who sold me his 728i for just £500 in addition to also Autocar’s editorial director Jim Holder for rightly believing in which people might be interested inside idea.
