Renault will make a larger crossover than the Kadjar; of which’s due in 2017 along with also will share its underpinnings with the Nissan X-Trail
Renault’s brand-new D-segment crossover has been spotted testing for the very first time ahead of its launch in Europe in 2017.
The as yet unnamed design will be based on the Nissan X-Trail along with also will sit above the newly launched Kadjar inside French firm’s line-up. inside same way of which the Kadjar shares its underpinnings along with also engines with the Nissan Qashqai, the brand-new SUV will be likely to take the same path.
These spy pictures give little away about the SUV’s styling, although of which’s likely to take inspiration via the Kadjar. A large Renault badge along with also grille can be seen at the front, while some plastic Centeng cladding can also be seen around of which test mule’s lower edges.
As the X-Trail will be available in both a few along with also seven-seat forms, of which’s highly likely of which at least one variant of Renault’s large crossover will offer seating for seven. As with the Kadjar, the auto’s cabin will be likely to feature a digital instrument cluster along with also will come with the latest variation of Renault’s R-Link infotainment system.
Engines for the brand-new design will be lifted via the X-Trail range along with also will include the same 1.6-litre turbodiesel already offered inside Qashqai along with also Kadjar. The 1.6 DIG-T engine via the Nissan Juke Nismo should also be offered. Like the X-Trail, the brand-new crossover will be offered which has a choice of front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
The brand-new car was confirmed earlier of which year by Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker, who said: “The D crossover will be developed along with also will be produced in China in 2016, along with also there will be a chance of which will come to Europe as well.
“[The Kadjar] needs to become the bridge to the D crossover, so of which car has an important role to play.”
Currently Renault just offers the Captur as a crossover inside UK, so the leap via of which supermini-based SUV to a rival for the likes of the X-Trail could be too large.
“If we cannot get people to move via Captur to Kadjar, then we cannot get people to go to the D crossover, so we need of which car [the Kadjar] to do well,” he said.
