Facelifted Mercedes SLK to morph into completely new SLC as part of range-wide name alterations, with styling, Inside along with mechanical upgrades planned
The upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLC has been spotted entirely undisguised prior to its debut at the Detroit motor show in early 2016.
Essentially a facelifted variation of the existing SLK, the SLC retains the same bodywork as of which of its predecessor nevertheless receives a completely new front bumper featuring a revised grille – reminiscent of of which used on the Mercedes-AMG GT – along with more contemporary headlights. Revised tail-lights along which has a reprofiled rear bumper with altered tail pipes also feature.
Although yet to be officially confirmed, Mercedes-Benz officials suggest the SLK350 will make way for a completely new SLK400 design running Mercedes-Benz’s twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine in place of the naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 unit offered today. Power is usually set to boost by 26bhp to 328bhp, with torque to extend by 82lb ft to 354lb ft.
At the top of the line-up, the SLK55 AMG is usually set to be replaced by the SLC63. of which eschews the existing naturally-aspirated 5.5-litre V8 with 415bhp along with 396lb ft for AMG’s completely new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 delivering up to 502bhp along with 516lb ft of torque.
The SLK400 is usually set to adopt Mercedes-Benz’s completely new nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard in place of the seven-speed unit used by the SLK350. The SLC63 will continue with the seven-speed SpeedShift automatic gearbox used by the SLK55, although of which will be updated with the latest software, as seen on the C63.
Earlier prototype types were spotted testing close to Mercedes-Benz’s research along with development centre on the outskirts of Stuttgart.
