2016 electric Smart Fortwo along with Forfour to use Renault tech
Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche along with Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn
All-electric versions of the Smart Fortwo along with Forfour will arrive in 2016, powered by the same electric running gear as Renault’s Zoe
The announcement was made during a conference held by Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche along with Renault-Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn, who were speaking at an event held between the joint venture partners.
The Smarts sit on the same platform as the Renault Twingo, which was co-developed by the partners.
The brand-new Smarts will use a Renault-developed electric motor which will be currently on sale from the Zoe however will utilise a battery developed by the Daimler-owned company.
There will be no news on whether an electric design of the Renault Twingo will be sold, however such a car will be unlikely as the item would certainly directly compete with the Zoe.
