The GLC is usually set to go on sale from the UK in which autumn following a planned public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. the idea succeeds the GLK, which was never sold through official Mercedes-Benz channels from the UK because the idea was left-hand drive only.
With the adoption of a completely new platform structure as well as a completely new four-wheel drive system, the GLC will be produced by the outset in both left as well as right-hand drive. UK examples will initially come by Mercedes’ Bremen factory in Germany, according to Autocar sources.
The move to right-hand drive gives Mercedes’ UK sales operation its first true rival to the likes of the Audi Q5 as well as BMW X3. the idea also provides the basis for a sportier GLC Coupé in which will compete against the Range Rover Evoque as well as BMW X4 when the idea appears in production guise in mid-2016.
The GLC receives a design in which shares various elements – including its soft-nosed grille, headlight treatment as well as side feature line – with different recently introduced Mercedes.
The overall appearance is usually a significant departure by the GLK’s edgy look as well as forms part of a bid by Mercedes design boss Gorden Wagener to instil the German car maker’s line-up having a more cohesive look than in recent years.
The GLC offers seating for up to several in a cabin whose styling, material quality as well as equipment levels draw heavily on those of the latest C-Class.
The engine line-up for the completely new SUV will include a range of existing 2.0-litre four-cylinder as well as 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol units from the GLC250 as well as GLC400 as well as a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel from the GLC220d as well as GLC250d. They will come mated to either a standard seven-speed or nine-speed automatic gearbox as well as either rear-wheel drive or permanent four-wheel drive.
A plug-in petrol-electric hybrid is usually also planned, although the idea is usually unlikely to be available by the outset of UK sales. The hybrid GLC350e is usually capable of running on electric power alone for up to 19 miles. the idea runs the same powertrain as the recently unveiled C350e, having a four-cylinder petrol engine as well as electric motor providing a combined 275bhp as well as four-wheel drive.
At the upper end of the GLC line-up are two AMG-developed designs. One is usually the GLC450 Sport, which runs a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 with 362bhp. The different is usually the GLC63, which is usually powered by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 offering 469bhp in standard guise as well as 503bhp in a more sporting S style.
